Each week, HIYA Gallery looks back on the history of art and more precisely on the history of street art and its associated movements. We try to highlight the pioneers of this movement who have become legends, the mythical works that have left their mark in the history of street art, as well as important cultural events concerning the development of street art and graffiti, such as books rare or cult, exhibitions making reference in the history of the movement, films and other events.

We believe that in order to understand and feel the art of our time, we must constantly learn where it came from and what its roots are. That is why, alongside the representation and promotion of artists, we want to share with you knowledge about the history of street art.

Juntos - Add Fuel

The HIYA Gallery series places and works legendaries of street art present thea fresco by Portuguese visual artist Diogo Machado (1980), aka Add Fuel. She was executed in October 2020 in Amadora, Portugal.

Entitled “Juntos”, which means “together”, the work is part of the project to promote urban art “Conversas na Rua” (“Conversations in the street”), calling for unity, respect and tolerance in these difficult times.

In its recognizable style, Add Fuel reinterprets the language of Portuguese pewter-glazed ceramic azulejo in a new way by mixing traditional decorative elements with contemporary visual codes. The complexity and mastery of the fresco has a deep contextual symbolic meaning. As the artist describes it: “In a multicultural city like Amadora, JUNTOS calls for unity in a visual composition of multicultural, aesthetic and chromatic influence, which wants to celebrate the diversity of races, cultures and skin colors that make the world even more beautiful. "
