The Brooklyn Museum in New York is preparing a very large exhibition that will celebrate the work of KAWS from its beginnings to the present day. This exhibition will retrace more than 25 years of the artist's career. 

Brian Donnelly, aka KAWS, is known for his paintings and sculptures of pop culture-inspired characters, many of which illustrate the loneliness of modern life.

The exhibition titled KAWS: WHAT PARTY will highlight a wide selection of the artist's work, including drawings, paintings, furniture, and sculptures by his iconic character Companion. 

The exhibition will take place from February 12 to September 5, 2021 at the Brooklyn Museum located at 200 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, New-York, USA. 

KAWS has selected works that will emphasize universal emotions always present in its works, such as love, friendship, loneliness and alienation in a culture shaped by image and consumption.


The exhibition will also present new works and some that have never been exhibited publicly before, such as some of his early graffiti as well as his sketchbooks from the early 1990s which will be presented for the first time. 

The exhibition will be divided into four sections. The first section will present the first works and the sketchbooks of KAWS, to then move on to the second room which will show his appropriation of American cartoon characters, like one of his major series, KIMPSONS, of which some works in this series have been featured. sold for several million dollars in recent years at auctions. The third section will feature more recent works by KAWS, including a new large sculpture that will be unveiled at the exhibition. The exhibition will end with the fourth room which will highlight KAWS 'collaborations with other artists, fashion and industrial design brands. 

A fully illustrated catalog, co-edited with Phaidon Press, will accompany the exhibition.
