The Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Brazil, presents from October 15, 2020 to February 22, 2021 a new exhibition titled OSGEMEOS: Segredos, the first major retrospective exhibition of the artist duo OS GEMEOS formed by the brothers Otávio and Augusto Pandolfo (São Paulo, 1974).
The exhibition brings together more than 1000 objects and artworks by the duo, including around fifty never before shown in Brazil.
The OS GEMEOS duo have made their way into the art world without ever losing sight of their desire to remain accessible to the general public. They have participated in exhibitions with major international institutions, such as recently with the Hamburger Bahnhof, in Berlin, in 2019, with a project designed in partnership with the Berlin breakdance group Flying Steps; with the Vancouver Biennale, Canada (2014); with the MOCA - Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2011); with the MOT - Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, Japan (2008), and with the Tate Modern, London, United Kingdom (2008); and with the Milano Trienale (2006), among others.
The duo OS GEMEOS has also been invited to create works for important public projects in more than 60 countries, including, among others, Sweden, Germany, Portugal, Australia, Cuba and the United States - where they had at their disposal the electronic screens of Times Square, New York (2015) to present their works in a digital format and visible to the greatest number.
Their works tell stories (sometimes autobiographical) whose plots involve fantasy, emotional relationships, questioning, dreams and life experiences.
The OS GEMEOS studio is still established in Cambuci, a former working-class neighborhood in downtown São Paulo, where they spent their childhood and youth.
Starting in the 1990s, their experiments - not only in graffiti, but also in easel painting and sculptures both static and in motion - broke the two-dimensional limit and resulted in the creation of a unique universe. operating at the interface between dream and reality.
During this exhibition, the Pinacoteca de São Paulo presents paintings, immersive installations, sound installations, sculptures, specific interventions, drawings and notebooks. The notebooks, dating from their adolescence and now presented to the public for the first time, precede their famous yellow characters and shed light on the roots of their emergence. All of the works take the museum by storm and occupy the seven temporary exhibition rooms on the first floor, as well as one of the courtyards, several interior and exterior spaces and, last but not least, the Octagon, which houses an installation by the duo specially created for the exhibition.
