Tribune. Hip-hop culture was born on the streets. It all started in the early 1970s, with the first block parts hosted by DJ Kool Herc - real name Clive Campbell - in the Bronx. A simple idea that changed everything: two turntables that run in parallel, music that never stops and breaks which go on ad infinitum. We had never known such a space of expression for dance. We met in the street to vibrate together on the beat, quite simply because we could not afford entry into a club.
